carolina chain top from Making A Lather

I have a top finished for Carolina chain. I have had piles of projects just needing a little help to get them ready for quilting. This one I used as my away project only. Eventually, it reached a stage I just wanted to finish it.

oops -silly block turned wrong _ I guess that is why I take pictures

I cut Carolina chain in 2017. It is from the the book addicted to scraps by Bonnie Hunter. It was also in the quilltmaker  magazine, June/ July 2010.

half a carolina chain from Making A Lather

I have just about reached the long center rows on the top half of carolina chain.

And I am adding the last batch of 3 rows to the bottom part of the quilt. I cut Carolina chain in 2017. It is from the the book addicted to scraps by Bonnie Hunter. It was also in the quilltmaker  magazine, June/ July 2010

I used easy breezies and fish school for leader/ enders

I saw this pattern at Joann over the weekend. It looks like a great scrap buster. Although, I am not planning on starting anything new. Nope I am not ...

chain upside down from Making A Lather

Something is not right here. I was pinning the next three rows from the bottom of Carolina chain and it didn't look right. I was watching TV so, it must have been a great show, that I bungled the direction of the rows. haha

I knew I was working from the bottom, but, I pinned as though it was from the top. Then, the angles of the setting triangles were off and the lengths were wrong. Such a rookie mistake. Back to the book and diagram and another round of pinning, sewing, and it was finally together.

Jumping back ...

more carolina chaining from Making A Lather

I did the top 5 rows of carolina chain earlier. and now, I have assembled the bottom 5 rows. They are the easiest and shortest so of course, I wanted to do them first.

the setting triangles are dark blue

I cut Carolina chain in 2017. It is from the the book addicted to scraps by Bonnie Hunter. It was also in the quilltmaker  magazine, June/ July 2010.

I have been using easy breezy 1 1/2 inch squares for the leader/ender project this week. I am having more trouble picking out of a bag of 1 1 ...

chaining from Making A Lather

It is time to move Carolina chain along to the next step. I cut the setting triangles from scrappy blues.

And, now, I am going to join the rows a few at a time, and, there is a lot of matching and pinning to be done. I have the rows sewn together.  I really like seeing the dark and light chains start to form. This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book addicted to scraps.

such a blessing from Making A Lather

I spent Sunday with this little guy. He is such a blessing. He is our 11th Grandchild, 9 of them are boys. I had 4 boys and 1 girl. So we are used to boys around here. Here is the quilt I made for him.

All my Carolina chain blocks are in set of 4... all 1 million. I can do this on this quilt because each row has an even number, and doubles.

progress from Making A Lather

This seems like a small accomplishment for my sea swept quilt, but, I have made a decision to cut new blocks for the sashings and trim down to the right size. These 2 blocks were made using the exact measurements. They are not bad but a little small. I need 56 of these blocks for the quilt I am making.

Our guild had an open sew and charity quilt workshop Saturday. I took my accuquilt and tumbler die for cutting through donation fabrics. Somehow my die was broken and we had to suspend the cutting. sigh... I've never had ...

sea swept progress from Making A Lather

At retreat this weekend, I sewed the last 4 blocks I need for sea swept. I ordered studio 180 template for the sashing. I think it will save me the headache of math "to fit" what I have already made. I have the squared squared template. I ordered diamond rects. hooray.  I still have many cut pieces - I may make it larger.

There is always something scrappy going on at the sewing machine. This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book addicted to scraps called Carolina Chain. I had the blocks done in April.  I use them as a ...

carolina chaining from Making A Lather

I have been working for some time on Carolina chain blocks. I use them as a back up portable project. That makes it difficult to know just where I stand on this project with a little here and a little there. I counted the light squares the end of March here. I cut more of what I thought I needed. I have taken some time to count the dark chains, and, I have enough. It is time to start joining a few squares together.

This is a Bonnie Hunter pattern from her book addicted to scraps.

progress from Making A Lather

I am rounding up all the light carolina chain blocks and finishing the cutting, and, sewing the ones I need for the quilt. I have many of the dark ones made as well, but, I am trying to get the light ones to the finish. I found some more tucked away. I thought they were dark background. I've cut some more dark squares to finish what I need.

I have made a few blocks for quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. I work on these a little at a time.

Winter has been hard on our trees. We ...

to do: count from Making A Lather

I cut this Bonnie hunter quilt out in 2017 after her book came out -addicted to scraps. There were a lot of pieces to cut. I have used Carolina chain as a back up project when I go to a sewing event. In case, my main project gets too tedious or finished before I want to go home, I pull these mindless pieces out and sew on them.  I kept kits in baggies, and, the baggies are, finally, starting to empty. It is time to count and re cut missing or mismatched blocks. These are the dark centers, I still ...
